Bikeworx,
Weird. I was just reading same book and had many of the same questions.
My '73 Eldo tranny is marked "4". Can I assume that is next in a line of
changes from "#3" trannies?

Don't know if this helps your gauge survey but my VIN is #57383 and has
a dual guage dash, although who knows what was on it originally.

 evening guys ~

Just got Greg Fields book "Guzzi Big Twins" and have been reading
through it..............EXCELLENT book!!

But, it has made me think about a few things pertaining to my '72 Eldo
(VIN # 52069):

1. It said in the book that there was a problem of sorts with the 1st
year production of the 5-speed transmissions, and that some (i think it
said 1500) models had been repaired with a new/updated trans. The
new/repaired trans would have a number "3" stamped by the tranny filler
plug and/or near the speedometer drive. Mine doesn't appear to have the
"3"................so, i am wondering what all was done to the
new/updated trans and if it can be done to mine?

2. The book doesn't mention a dual gauge dash on the 1st year
Eldo's...........was that an option maybe? or perhaps a previous owner
just tossed it on there in place of a broken/missing original single
gauge dash?

3. Is there a way/listing to determine what number my Eldo was in the
assembly sequence? All i have is what is stamped on the VIN plate: Jan -
1972, Engine No 52069, Frame No 52069
Just curious if there is a way to figure out when/where/how/etc

Also, as a footnote, i did finally figure out what the mount brackets
were that i couldn't identify: seat mount brackets! I do however, have
to figure out how i am going to replace the brackets as these are
completely shot and have the old seat mount bolts (whats left of them
anyway) rusted in place. And i seriously doubt heating them up would
help, as there is no remaining indication of threads on them. Hopefully,
it won't be too painful cutting the old brackets off and welding new
ones on.............

I'm sure i'll have even more questions, but for now these are all i can
think of. Anybody care to give them a shot?
