Bummer, I would replace them as a set as in auto applications.

Got mine apart and u make me nervous. Everything feels smooth and no
bits n pieces. However...the driveshaft support bearing was cracked in
the inner race and had two small chips missing on each side of crack.
??? Go figure how that happened. Some what excessive slop between inner
race and u-joint so maybe that caused it, who knows.
Im replacing every bearing I can get my hands on easily just to start
from new and known while it is apart.

I've been puttn' the '74 LAPD back together and was cleaning/checking
the rear drive assy... a little metal came out of the sump and the
pinion's shaft didn't move smoothly. So I figure OK now's the time to
check the ring and pinion. Well I found what some of the vibration was
about... the pinion is shot. Heavy pitting and the top of most of the
teeth are busted... the ring gear looks OK... so far. The bearings turn
smoothly.

I understand that the ring and pinion are a matched set. Anyone have any

ideas?
