Well, if these are the larger fill plugs, there isn't a reason that any of
them should have a hole through. There were a few rare instances where
loopframes lost their dipstick. The fill plugs are usually chrome over
brass. At the factory, the engine fill plug was drilled through about an
eighth of an inch diameter. The steel rod of the dipstick was insterted and
soldered into this hole. The top end was plugged with solder and the whole
thing chromed. Periodically, one of these would rattle loose and the stick
end would fall into the sump. It didn't alwas expose the outer hole. If
so, it would puke oil real fast.
Do you still have your left side engine fill plug with its dipstick rod?
Could this be the remainder of one of those? Otherwise, some previous
owner did a drill job for some reason. No other loopframe part has the
configuration you describe.
