fittinf the floorboards isnt to difficult, but can be pricey to find a complete set. the triple A boards are a little cheaper, but you still retain the 1 up 3 down shift pattern. the police floorboards are a little expensive to find, but you end up with the "normal" 1 down 3 up pattern. mark at moto guzzi classics has the police boards nicely recromed and powdercoated so you can call him for a price. i personally like them on my ambo :)

Fact is there is a lot of conjecture from the documentation end that is
hard to support either way. Guzzi shipped bikes to dealers that may have
been intended for police sales and they wound up with civilian first
owners . Dealers would swap parts in their shops to accomodate civilian
and/or municipal customers . Large municpalities could order batches
pretty much as the parts stock would provide. At times US market bikes
were augmented by Euro market models to satisfy supply shortfalls here
in the States.
The nice thing for us is there are plenty of combinations to choose
from allowing us to build personal bikes that are very authentic at the
same time. It is more fun to build what you want and ride than to fret
over which bar riser your bike should REALLY have !

Thanks Gary, things are becoming clearer! It does stand to reason given the
way the bikes were shipped to the U.S. that things would be subject to
change and to a "just do what it takes to get the bikes sold/delivered"
approach.

So...how hard is it to retro fit the footboards to a 'pegged' Ambassador?
(I ain't tellin' anybody but I always kind of had a thing for footboards
even though I've never had a bike with them.)
