Charlie,
I've been thinking about that, but the only way oil would get in there when
the engine running would be from the trans hub side (which did happen before
I tore everything down and rebuilt her).
I suppose if one of the drain holes stopped just right, a little oil could
migrate in there.
I think that I just had not noticed the slip during my test rides because I
did not apply enough power/drag.
I have not mic'd the thickness of the clutch disks, but when I talked to
Larry at GT, he said he has never know a clutch to slip from being under
spec.
My suspicion is that maybe I was not able to remove enough gear lube from
the friction surfaces, or maybe heat caused some that was locked inside to
migrate to the surface.
Or my intermediate plate is warped (I did not check it on a piece of
glass/mirror)
Or I adjusted the pushrod/arm adjuster wrong.

Later,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Maybe they're related - if enough oil ran down from the loose breather
hose to soak the clutch and cause it to slip. You might try the old
"mineral spirits clutch wash trick". I forget the exact particulars (how
much? how long? where do you fill if no timing plug?), but maybe someone
else can fill you in. Cheers,

Charlie

I didn't put a clamp on the large tube/hose that goes into the breather
box from the crankcase tube and there was enough room/looseness to let
oil spray from there. Put a clamp on it, and I'm going to hose it off
and see if it leaks any more.

one for the ...DUH... files

now if only my slipping clutch was something so simple.
