Lenny > if you are lacing up an old Ambo/Eldo wheel its ok for you to use
the old spokes and nipples. Buchanan's will also if you specify BUT they
will prefer to use new and will polish the spokes if you ask. A set of
spokes and nipples is about $80,polish extra. I just had a Borriani 4845
dual disc hubed wheel laced by Buchanan's with new polished spokes and
nipples. Total cost $270 not including shipping to me..............KO

Charlie,
What did you ask for when you ordered from Buchanan's? I emailed them about
spokes and nipples for my Ambo and I have had no response. Did you reuse any
old spokes or replaced all of yours. Did you get polished stainless or
regular stainless spokes with what style nipples. Also what did the sset per
wheel cost.

Hi Vince,
Hopefully your wheel will come apart easier than the one for my '71. On
it the spokes were corroded into the hub and were a real bear to remove.
Ended up destroying half of them in the process. May not be a bad idea
to use a good penetrating oil such as "Kroil" to soak the spoke/hub
junction for a while before the anticipated disassembly day.

By comparison, reassembly was quite easy. I used new s.s. spokes and
nipples from Buchanan's and they sent along two bottles of lube
("cutting oil") for the threads with the direction to lube generously.
Not sure if this as much of a concern with stock spokes and nipples,
since one is stainless and the other nickle-plated brass. Probably
wouldn't hurt to lube with a light oil during reassembly though. Cheers,

Charlie

I just bought a new rim for my rear wheel and hope to replace my old
bent one shortly. I've never done this before and I was wondering if any

list members have any advice regarding how to proceed and if there are
any special things to do or to avoid. I'm using the old hub and spokes,
they seem to be in good condition.
