Did you put the square slide in backwards? Long end towards cylinder (I think). This will cause an overly rich mixture.

Another thing to look at is the plunger inside the accelerator pump. It's easy to put it in upside down, and if so done, the cylindewr will run very poorly.

How do I know for sure if my problem is caused by bad valves? Is there any kind of test I can do? Should I remove the head and visually inspect?

After having some similar symptomss, I found that my left side valves
and guides both needed replacing. I have 50,000 miles on an 850. It needs a
starter relay now, before I will really know if that problem is really fixed.
The cost for the valve job: $111.25 for the valves and guidess, $30 for the
labor...Greg '74 LAPD

1. Left side plug fouls out all of the time.
2. When the engine is started and both cyclinders are firing - I pulled up
on the throtle cable on the right side the engine reved as expected. When I
tried the same thing on the left cylinder the motor bogs down and does not
rev up. What could be causing this?

Thanks,
