| I've been puttn' the '74 LAPD back together and was cleaning/checking the rear drive assy... a little metal came out of the sump and the pinion's shaft didn't move smoothly. So I figure OK now's the time to check the ring and pinion. Well I found what some of the vibration was about... the pinion is shot. Heavy pitting and the top of most of the teeth are busted... the ring gear looks OK... so far. The bearings turn smoothly. I understand that the ring and pinion are a matched set.
