I would first swap out the oil sending unit, as they seem to give false readings with age. To be sure your oil pump is ok, you can pick up a oil gauge at a autoparts and check the pressure. My dads Guzzi was having its oil light come on and off while at bike week last year. We cleaned up the sending contact and the problem went away. As for the synthetic oil, it is hard to say. I tend to stay with regular oil in my old bikes, I know some of the guys with brit bikes have had problems with their topends after switching to synthetic.

good luck
