Subject: details of left-hand-shift mechanism

Hi,
I assembling my first left-hand-shift ambassador and I'm at a bit of
a loss as
to what supports the far left of the shifter shaft. The right side
rides in the
"tube" on the bottom of the tranny. The middle has some support i
guess
from the linkage, but the far left just seems to float there. this
CANT be right.

Hints? Photos? Cold beers? I'll take any of em.
