Joe,

Thanks, the measrurement was taken with calipers from the base ot the
slide to the tip of the needle after install. As well the needles are
V-5.

I just got the plugs from MG Cycle NGK BP6??, am at work now but will
have to look later. It had Bosch plugs in it.

The bike is a 950 kit and the plugs, valves and timing were all set by
Cycle Garden. I did not mess with this when I rebuilt the rest of the
bike because I did not have a manual etc. Found one online (Chiltons)
and set the valves last night, setting the carbs (30mm flat sldies)idle
and then cable slide sync and then idle air mix.

I would like to time it using a timing light (dynamic) so I will look in
the manual on the specs, I am at sea level.

still have to change fork oil as well.

Scott,

I would suspect that the valve clearance problem you discovered would
yield more improvement than the 5 thou delta in the installed length of
the throttle slide needle. I guess you measured that with a dial caliper

from the tip of the needle to the bottom surface of the slide?

Just curious - do you have V-5 needles? Where do you have your ignition
timing set? What heat range plug are you using?

OK,

Right Cylinder running very hot.

Right cylinder plug was white and lean (ran it at RPM and shut down).
Left cylinder a little rich, a bit towards black.

Right cylinder valves were .004 intake and .000 exhaust, yes no
clearance.

Left side was tight as well but not nearly as bad as right.

Valves are now adjusted to specs cold.

Other finding interesting: The pin position on the caburator slides were

both set at the middle position. HOWEVER the right cylinder pin length
to bottom of the slide is .005 longer than the left cylinder.

The pins are marked the same and measure the same length and the
position slots measure the same. But installed in the slides one is
longer than the other, thus the shorter one would let more fuel thru the

jet. This would run richer, and was in the left cylinder carb the one
running richer and cooler.

Moving the pin positions will not make the even, but moving the slide
with the short pin to the lean (right cylinder) will richen it and
moving the one with the longer pin to the left will lean it out a bit.

We will see. I still have to sync the slides and adjust the idle.

As well I am changinf the oil to 20-50 HD (Harley) oil, they were $1.00
cheaper than my other dealers and the same price as shucks.

Moving the pins to other positions never comes close to the .005 diff.

My 950 Eldo runs very hot, too, but both sides seem equally hot. Maybe
one of your jets is restricted? Maybe imperfect ring or valve seal on
the right side? Bring it over, and we can do a leakdown and carb synch.

Greg, my Eldo has a 950 kit and 30mm carbs, running mid position on the
needle. Left side is working great no coloration on the header even
after long idle other than a little brown. Right side is super hot,
blue
to purple after cruising slow or long idle, it runs cooler on the road
at speed but still blue compared to the left side.

As well on long idle or stop and go my oil is overheating, loosing
pressure etc.

I know I need to sync the carbs and get them dialed in and that should
richen it up at idle and assure one cyclinder is not pulling the other
along. Just don't have a procedure for it.

As for the oil has anyone tried the 20-50 synthetics used for other big
bore air cooled bikes?
