Sleeve? What year bike are we talking about? I don't have a loop any
longer, but I don't recollect any sleeve on my 73 Eldo. Did someone
modify your swingarm to accept a non-standard bearing? Did someone
bugger your swingarm and have to modify it with the sleeve repair to get
the standard bearings back in? There should be an outer rubber grease
seal, a central seal washer or spacer, the tapered roller bearing
including its inner race, and then the outer race. The seal
spacer/washer comes out by finger. The rubber seal pops out with a
screwdriver. The tapered roller and inner race come out by finger.
Only the outer race needs a puller. It is just like a front wheel
bearing on an old drum brake car. What did you pull? Anyone else have
a swingarm as he describes? Have I forgotten something?

as a driver. Ouch. Nice roller sized depressions in both races and a
dent in the top of the rollers where they were pushed on by the inner
race.

May not have been the case. The damage you describe is rather typical
of swingarm pivot bearing use. The arm goes up and down only a few
degrees. Unlike a spinning bearing, this application only causes the
rollers to move about half of their diameter during the arc of the
swing. It is entirely likely that the rollers never make a full
rotation over their entire life cycle. Thus, all the wear load is
concentrated in tiny positions on the races and on small surfaces of the
rollers. Imagine a rocking motion and not a spinning motion. Over the
years, the wear and load cause deformation of the rollers and races
which might look like impact damage. It is especially a problem if the
bearings are adjusted too tight, or too loose. Most of us don't tinker
with these very often and it is common to see the damage you describe.
