Bob,
I'll also weigh in with my fix for this problem.
First a warning: If you drill out the holes to go to larger size or
replace the heli coils...THERE IS AN OIL PASSAGE BELOW THESE BOLTS!!!
Drilling too deep can cause untold problems.

I did indeed drill and tap these holes larger to accept 12 mm studs.
I then drilled two additional 10 mm holes in the bracket at the 3 and 9
o'clock positions as seated on the bike. The cavities in the engine case
webbing that are located under these new holes was filled with JB Weld
with two 10 mm bolts (heads down) seated in them. This provides two new
"studs" for attaching the bracket. I wrapped the bracket in plastic wrap
to prevent the JB Weld from sticking to it and used it to hold these new
bolts in place over night to dry.
The bracket was reenforced by welding plates across both ends as far up
as possible. The bracket was then put into place and 12 mm STUDS were
threaded into the new holes with JB Weld on the threads. The 10 and 12
mm nyloc nuts were threaded on and the belt was replaced with what might
be considered 'loose' fitting adjustment. I've not seen an issue in the
last 5000 plus miles. As others have shared the planer alignment of the
bracket support curves and the engine case support curve is critical as
well as belt tension.
Hope this helps.

I have heard about problems with the generator bracket and found mine
loose over the weekend. When I stripped the parts off I found the rear
mounting bolt broken off. From the looks of the bolt its been broke for
some time. Used an "Easy-Out" and removed the bolt. Any updates I need
to do to the gen bracket while it is out. Looks like a poor design with
the two mounting bolts so close together. Should I lock-tite the bolts
in place? What torque setting for the two bolts? Do I need to reinforce
the mounting bracket, someone told me a while back the bracket can
crack?

Thanks for any feedback.
BOB
