Anyone have opinions as to a good set of Mercury sticks, or synch gauges to
purchase?

You will likely get many opinions. Here's my take.

You want to be cheap? You can fabricate a very serviceable system from
a quart of ATF, 20' or so of fish tank air hose, and a garage rafter. I
think there is a link for it on guzzitech.com, but maybe others will
chime in with alternate sites. Careful, high revving can suck the fluid
into your motor. Harmless.

Mercury sticks have given me the best, most accurate service for many
years. However, you can't transport them and the mercury is toxic if
you should break it and lose it in your shop.

Pro-Motion has similar sticks using stainless rods instead of mercury.
They look practical, but I've never used them.

The Twin-Max is great in that it is small and transportable and easy to
use once you are familiar with it. I personally don't feel I can be
quite as accurate with it as I can with my old standby mercury stix.
