Hi Mike,

The low compression might be due to a number of factors. One way to
check to see if it the cylinders losing compression is to put about 1
squirt of oil into the cylinder, then run your compression test. If the
compression goes up, then you know you most likely have a
cylinder/piston/ring problem. If the compression does not go up, then
you most likely have a valve problem. Note: you may have a combination
of things contributing to the low compression.

If you have the original chromed cylinders, your best bet might be to
replace the whole works (cylinder/piston/rings) with a set of the
Nikasil ones. Alternatively, you could get steel sleeves inserted into
your existing cylinders. The Nikasil is definitely preferred (available
fromhttp://www.mgcycle.com).

If you need to have head/valve work done, check around locally to find
someone who knows what they are doing. Ask the local Guzzi/BMW/etc folks
who they have used and who they trust. Guzzi heads are not especially
challenging, but, it has been my experience that finding someone who
will perform quality work and pay attention to detail can be difficult.
All the parts you need are readily available.

Pulled one of my jugs off my ambo yesterday. Found that It's scratched,
OK
it's got a grove in it, that explains the 45 lbs. of compression. So
what
can I do? I'm open to suggestions. Mike Denver
