Over the years I have dealt with many gas tanks. Alfa Romeo BMW,
Mercedes, Royal Enfield and MG.
It's all the same. Remove the tank and drain. Put in a lenghth of chain
and rattle around to loosen any rust particles. Tape up all the drain
holes leaving only the filler open. Pour in Reynolds sloshing sealer,
1qt, available at any aircraft supply store and slosh around for a few
minutes. Pour out what is left back in to the qt can for future use.
Wait a couple of days and you are all set. The sealer leaves a slightly
rubbery coating that fills any pinholes and prevents further rusting.
There is even a coating for alcohol fuels as the regular coating will
loosen when exposed to alcohol. I know for having used it in one of the
race cars.
Cheers
Dorien
