I machined a shallow depression in a 1/2 piece of Lexan on my lathe so the
bezzle side of the spedo was a snug fit b4 I disassembled it. When it came
time to reassemble the spedo I used the tail stock on my lathe to press the
spedo can, O ring and bezzle up against the Lexan. This forced the bezzle
inward toward the can so it couldn't flatten out when recrimped. I then
used a punch and hammer to carefully recrimp the bezzle.

If you break the glass it can easily be replaced with Lexan/polycarbonate. I
believe that McMaster Carr sells it or United States Plastic Co. Use a
holes saw w/o the pilot drill and sand to size. It won't break again!!

Lastly, for single spedo loops. I worked with a local silkscreener to have
sceens made to replace the numbers that tend to fall off the inner plastic
ring.

duffy,
taking the bezel apart and putting it back together without cracking the
glass is hard. you should carefully pry the back of the bezel gradually
all
the way around and try not to kink the bezel.
If you remove it without damage, putting it back together is done
carefully
in the reverse order. If you kink the bezel while removing but manage not
to
break the glass, just get a new bezel (ask me how I know)
If you do break the glass or kink the bezel, West Valley Auto Instruments
in
Reseda, CA - (818) 758-9500 - can get you a new bezel (not exact replica,
from VDO I think) and glass. I paid about $35. Talk to Morris.

Maybe a speedo shop local to you could get the same bezel/glass.

For jacking, maybe make adapters from 2x4s to support by the frame and not
the motor.

I need side covers too!

Have Fun and Good Luck!
