Ted,

I don't have the answer to your question but I do have the same question. As a matter of fact it has been great for me to follow the thread on your project as I am doing the same thing but you are a little quicker than me so it seems every time I have a question you ask it before I get a chance, so just to let everyone know your answers and suggestions to Ted have been much appreciated by me as well. My input gear doesn't look as bad as yours apparently is, but I do need to remove it and the PO apparently removed it or attempted to remove it with a punch (or a "gouge" from the appearance of the nut), and I am also wondering if the nut will need replacing. Don't know how long this old Eldo sat in someone's garage or barn, but I do know there are lots of spider webs in everything I disassemble!
The sun is supposed to come out today so I'm hoping to get a little spin in at lunchtime.
Thanks again to everyone
all these projects almost make winter seem like fun.

Steve

Okay I began to reassemble my clutch when I noticed the problem that caused
me to dissasemble the thing in the first place. All the clutch components
are fine, but the transmission input gear looks like it has had the crap
beat out of it. So I guess I'm gonna order a new one ($95 bucks phew)

My question: Do I need the ring nut tool (http://www.mgcycle.com/tools.html)
to get out the old hub? It looks like the PO may have tried to get it out
without success, the nut in there looks a *little* bit mangled. I can't
think of any other way to get it out easily, but I hate to spend $36 on a
tool I'll probably only use once.

My comment: It is beyond me HOW ON EARTH you guys would ever assemble the
clutch with the motor still in the frame. With the motor on its nose, I had
a tough time keeping the springs in place, not to mention lining up the
intermediate plate.

Ted
