Hi Turo,
The rear drive on my '72 was "not as smooth as one might perceive it should be" and upon disassembly I found that the large ball bearing cage was missing and that the balls were just floating around in the races loose! Certainly not optimum! I'm not saying that yours will have the same problem, but you may want to have someone familiar with Guzzi rear drives have a look inside.

On a related note: a local Guzzi rider with over 100,000 miles on his '99 Bassa, called the other day wanting to borrow a 14mm allen wrench. Loaned him the wrench and later he bought the swingarm, drive shaft, coupler, u-joint and rear drive up for me to have a look. He'd been experiencing a mild vibration for about the first tenth of a mile at low speed. Everything looked and felt like new except for the splines that the rear wheel fit into. These were a little rusty and worn to about 1/2 original thickness. But I think that's still pretty amazing for the mileage. He put everything back together after lubing all the spliny bits and reports the vibes are now gone. Guess Guzzi built his right at least. Cheers,

Charlie
