<P>I have just installed a new MG timming chain tensioner .Very tight fit ! You really do have to clean the shit out of the engine bottom pan!!</P>
<P>My timming sprockets had timming center punch marks instead of paint? </P>
<P>Ran into a wierd thing with the clutch push rod, had a metal sleave on it! Could only get 3 of the 6 orings on to keep the oil in the tranny!! Hope it works!</P>
<P>Cheers Ted </P>

<DIV></DIV>Hi Ted,
<DIV></DIV>Sounds like your chain may be too worn to reuse and has possibly slipped
<DIV></DIV>a tooth. Guzzilology is really intended to be a suppliment to the shop
<DIV></DIV>manuals. The V700/Ambo/Eldo Shop Manual (at least mine anyways) doesn't
<DIV></DIV>have any info. on timing the cam on chain equipped bikes, so you might
<DIV></DIV>need to get the V7 Sport/750 S/850-T/850-T3 or later shop manual for
<DIV></DIV>that. It's quite simple though - there are (or should be) paint marks on
<DIV></DIV>the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets. These should line up after the
<DIV></DIV>chain and tensioner are installed. I can scan the pertinent illustration
<DIV></DIV>and paragraph for you if needed.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>Guzziology says "Guzzi could have made this job easier if they had
<DIV></DIV>punched or scribed timing marks on the gears, but instead we got little
<DIV></DIV>dabs of paint. Fortunately they don't seem to wear off. When properly
<DIV></DIV>positioned, the two painted teeth of the cam gear are supposed to
<DIV></DIV>straddle the one painted tooth of the crank gear. The paint stipe
<DIV></DIV>leading to one of the cam gear's mounting holes aligns with the cam's
<DIV></DIV>drive pin. With the marks aligned, the cam paint mark should be at 10:00
<DIV></DIV>(while facing the front of the engine)".
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>I did a timing chain w/master link and Valtek tensioner on a friends
<DIV></DIV>Eldo a few years back and remember it as not being too hard. With the
<DIV></DIV>endless chain you'll need to pull the sprockets off for installation.
<DIV></DIV>Moto International sends a Help Sheet with the parts when you buy from
<DIV></DIV>them which has plenty of tips to ease installation. I can also scan this
<DIV></DIV>as well if needed. Cheers,
<DIV></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>> Thanks for the help so far. I opened up the front of the '74 eldo (Great

<DIV></DIV>> loose,
<DIV></DIV>> it will touch the sides of the case with some left over. I'm guessing
<DIV></DIV>> the
<DIV></DIV>> reason my bike isn't running is the chain slipped a link and timing got
<DIV></DIV>> bunged. What do I do now?
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>> There is a little item that looks like a tensioner that slides right to

<DIV></DIV>> anything
<DIV></DIV>> even if the chain were already tight. I slid it all the way in (towards
<DIV></DIV>> the
<DIV></DIV>> center) and it does nothing. Is there another way of removing slack or
<DIV></DIV>> do I
<DIV></DIV>> have to get a new chain?
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>> Also I guess I'll get a book so I don't have to bother you guys with
<DIV></DIV>> this
<DIV></DIV>> stuff (like how to align all the gears correctly and get the chain in
<DIV></DIV>> place
<DIV></DIV>> etc...) Does guzziology cover all this stuff or should I get a shop
<DIV></DIV>> manual?
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>> Thanks for any and all help on this stuff.
