Paul and Bob, My regulator was bad once, or so I thought. I went out and
bought a Ford Falcon regulator and when I was about to install it I thought
about opening up the old one and checking it out inside (or maybe I didn't
think this up maybe someone from this list told me). Anyway, turned out the
points needed a little shining up. Did that with 300 grit paper, put her
back in and she ran nice. Took the Falcom reg. back and saved a whole $7!

Bob,

I did my ground the same as you, straight to the battery negative post. I
checked my regulator against another old one and it gives the same readings.
I even pulled the cover off it and nothing was welded together. Bikes been
running fine for a year already.

Paul,

I posted a similar problem a few pages back. My light came on, new
regulator, and I could tap the regulator and it would go back off.
Finally, 100+ miles, the light would not go back off. Took off the
regulator cover and the NO(normally open contacts on the dual contact
coil had welded closed). This is the same problem I found in the old
regulator. Have you taken the cover off the regulator yet? If not take a
look, a new one may not solve the problem. I just got a reply from
another rider and he mentioned his problem was a bad ground on the
regulator. Mine is tied directly to my negative battery post so that is
not my problem, but maybe another bad wire connection somewhere. I'm
going to check my generator and clean all the contacts and replace the
wires going up to the gen and see what happens. Let me know if you find
a definite problem/fix for your generator. Good Luck.

Ok folks, took a ride to the gas station last night and on the way
back
the
generator light came on and won't go off. Put a meter on the battery and
revved it up and no change in voltage. Hooked meter directly to the D+ &
DF
on my Bosch generator and revved it up and got 0 voltage. Is this right?
If
I check on the regulator from D+ to DF I get a short. Is this right? I
pulled the generator apart and checked everything and the brushes are
new
and move freely. I measured across the D+ & DF and got 4.8ohms. This
according to Guzziology indicated that my field coils are still fine. No
reading would indicate burnt out field coils. I checked another
generator I
have and it read the same (not sure on condition or operatability of
this
unit). I will pick up another regulator tomorrow and compare its
readings to
the one I have installed. Any other suggestions?
