FYI: I have been very happy running Westco sealed batteries in several
Guzzis. However, I did have one mechanical failure. The battery posts
are slightly recessed into the lid plastic and you use a small bolt to
attach cables. On one of my EV's, the battery cable end was larger than
the recess around the battery post. When I clamped down on the bolt, it
acted like a gear puller and ever-so-slightly pulled the post up to
flush. This movement broke the seal around the post and a very minor
amount of acid was allowed to leak out over a long period of time. I
ignored it for nearly two years before discovering some serious
corrosion and loss of metal on the battery cable ends. I replaced that
battery and now I make sure that when attaching cables, the bottom or
first cable end is always smaller than the recess surrounding the post
so it creates a higher level surface for the larger cables to attach. I
could just as easily stack a washer or two to insure that my cables were
only hitting on the post and not the surrounding plastic.
