Am running ND alternators on both of my loops; a 73 civilian and a 74 LAPD. They are from a Toyota Tercell (1985-87 with 1.5 liter engine). This is a 60 amp. alternator and puts out plenty of juice to run everything plus.
This past July I stopped at the alternator shop that I got the ND's from and the owner showed me an even better alternator to use. It's also an ND and he said that the stock car racers are using it now because of it's size. It is from a Kabota diesel tractor, puts out 60 amps, has an internal regulator, is about the size of a clenched fist, and weighs 5 lbs! I'm sure any alternator shop would have info on them. I believe he said the cost was about $150.00 for a rebuilt. The shop where I got the info is:
Chippewa Valley Starter and Alternator Service
Ph. 715-831-9939 or 831-6009 sorry no web site. Ask for Ron Mahder.
I fabricated the mounts for my alternators using basically the same style as what Greg Fields is referring to. They work great and are simple to wire up.
Later "Maynard"
