Congrats Steve. Set the carbs to basic 1 1/2 turns and that should get you started. Read Guzziology to learn which each needle does. If you are running rich be sure to check the jets to ensure they are right ones. I have seen people stress out only to learn the PO put the wrong ones in. o with the basics first and narrow down. I have never had a problem with a bike yet when I apply common sense. Good luck...Ian

Now for something different. I got the Eldo together and you should have seen the smile on my face Wednesday after work. I put some gas in, hooked up the battery, put on the "enrichener" and cranked it over. fired up on about the 3rd or 4th rev! Scared me so bad I turned it right off, went home and had a couple of beers. I couldn't quit grinning I've never had anything I tore apart so completely start up so easily. I have no ventilation to speak of in my shop so I figured I would drive the bike the 12 blocks to my house where I could dial the tuning in outdoors without gassing myself. Went to do that yesterday. Bike started right up but ran poorly (somewhat expected) for 3 blocks, died and wouldn't start. Pushed it back to shop, let it sit, fired right up again. I think it's running too rich (haven't been able to pull plugs yet to verify). I was thinking I'd try to lean out the carbs, clean the plugs, and advance the timing a little and see if that helps. Anyone else have any ideas? One problem might be that I couldn't find anything about where to set the throttle slide screw on the carbs (the big adjuster screw above the smaller idle screw) I know I read somewhere but I can't seem to find it. how far out should this be turned for the basic setting? I did the idle screw 1 1/2 turns to start and did same to slide screws as I don't know what the proper setting should be. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It does look super and I don't think it will take too much to get it dialed in. I'll hopefully have some pix for everyone of the whole process before long.
