Ron, Bill et al, I've been carrying a spare clutch cable and throttle cable
all along. I have a 2 gallone t-bag on the back of my seat I keep such
stuff. Also carry tools and complete ignition set. I am slowly gaining
mechanical knowledge, in part because of these conversations but having the
knowledge without the equipment at hand, when out on the road, can make for
added problems. Then again if you are absolutely, positively sure that your
Loop is all up to par then you have no worries when you are out on the
road!!

Ron,

You make an excellent arguement....so good in fact that I'm
convinced,...I'm keeping the old cable clutch. What a beautiful thing this
Loop list is!

Bill,

Carrying a spare cable is a whole lot cheaper than installing an hydraulic
clutch, not to mention that it's something more complex to fail. I once rode
with some friends to West Va. rally. Sunday morning, loading up to ride
home, One of the guys pulled the hydraulic clutch on his Ducati & it went
right to the bar. Had it been a cable clutch, we could have rigged something
(even on a Duc.), but nothing could be done W/the hydraulics & he had to
"crash box" shift his bike 420 miles home to Lynchburg VA.

I learned the lesson about spare cables by breaking the clutch cable on my
old Ambo about 50 miles from home. I switched the front brake cable to the
clutch. The ride home was "exciting" (right hand clutch & no front brake)
but hey, I got home without having to call for help.
