My early '69 Ambo came with polished valve covers and so did the '72. As far as I know, both style of the V700's covers were polished too. My buddies (mid-'73 production, 4 ls and Amals) '74 Eldo had partially polished covers - they were polished in some areas and left kinda' orange-peel texture in others. Seems I recall reading somewhere (Moto Guzzi Big Twins maybe?) that they stopped polishing them around that time period. Cheers,

Charlie.

Now, to address the valve polishing question...

I believe that all but the early Ambassador and all the Eldorado models
came with polished valve covers, but that the V700, early Ambassador,
and 850 California models came with unpolished covers.
