Hi Ted,

I ordered the kit and have the majority of the fasteners
installed...still looking for that extra time to finish them all up.
Since they are dissimilar metals, I used anti-sieze compound on all the
threads, which is a good idea in any case, as steel and alluminum are
dissimilar metals, too.

As for strength, it is my understanding that common stainless steal is
more brittle (because it lacks the iron content that causes regular
steel to rust). In practice, I'm not sure how big of an issue this is. I
haven't had any trouble thus far (knock on wood). I'm sure there will be
lot's of opinions.

As an alternative, you can get the fasteners re Ni-Cad plated. I've
heard that the small systems (like from Eastwood) don't last very long.
I think John Schwartz has a connection in California where he takes a
bucket every now and then and they come back beautiful...but I've no
idea on the cost.

Has any of you used a kit? Was woundering if the shear strenght of the
soft stainless screws has ever been looked into? Also being from a wet
climate has anyone had bad corrosion from the dissimaler metals? Would
be hell if you could not get the screws out again or they started
shearing off at the most inoperate times!I can see the advantage of no
rusting but I do not need to create any more maintinace problems just to
make it pretty lookin! What do you think?
