In the spring of 2003 I pulled my 72 Eldo police special down from its
second floor storage.

I told my wife I was just going to make it run so I'd have a bike to ride
since I'd sold my beautiful 72 Ambo to a friend the previous fall.

The Eldo spent 10 years in a dirt floor barn and was quite rough. The bottom
of the headlight bucket was rotted right through!! I installed a set of
carbs, and put the distributer back together. It fired up after not running
for close to 20 years!. The wrist pin bushings in the left cylinder had an
incredible amount of wear and were talking back big time.

The wheels were off for new rubber, the swing arm was pulled for inspection
of the u joint and now the engine had to come apart. As my buddy Steve and
I were looking at the bike I said that there wasn't much left to pull off
for a frame up restoration. He said that he was thinking the same thing.

That night in bed I sprung the idea on Jana. She wasn't crazy about the
idea since I'd promise to renovate the second floor of the garage for her
art studio. Well she relented and the bike came apart. Powder coating,
chroming, the works.

By June I knew I was in trouble becaure things were taking way longer than
I'd planned. What to do. That's easy, buy another bike that needs work!!!

The 67 V700 arived in August on my wife birthday. As bad as I wanted to
oggle over my new toy I knew it'd mean trouble so I rolled it off the truck,
into the garage and shut the door. So now instead of working on the Eldo I
spent time getting the V700 road worthy. In the spring and summer of 2004 I
really spiffed out the V700. It's actually in the December MGNOC in Steve
Rossi's article.

A few weeks ago I got the wheels for the Eldo in the basement and pulled
them apart for polishing. It's about 50% complete so maybe this summer.

The art studio, oh yea, that's about 50% done too!!

I noticed a few of us doing a Ambo/Eldo project.

Just curious who is doing what?

And what have been your road blocks?

I am doing a 72-74 disc conversion, paint job, cleaning, new exhaust,
bearings here and there, rewiring, alt. conversion, wheels, minor engine
work and adding blinkers.

My biggest headache has been converting the Japanese left control to allow
for the lights on/off, turn signals & horn. I also want to add relays for
the hi/low headlght.
there is not much room in the headlight nacelle.

They look like Ramflows to me.

Thinking of participating here a little more. I'm currently doing up a
'74
Eldo, have been enjoying lurking and reading your tips etc. This seems
like
one of the nicer internet discussion areas these days.
