if you're gonna use a strap wrench, put it as close as possible to the
fork lower, as you will crush/deform the upper part quite easily...

Yeah, I am trying to remove the chrome part of the fork. I was thinking
of a strap wrench myself but I have low expectations that it will come
off. There is a lot of rust in there from moisture sitting.
I sprayed some WD40 in there and let it sit over night..
