Hi Keith,

No drilling is required. The Heim joints have a stud on one end that
just slides through the existing hole. Then, you just put a nut on the
other side and tighten it up. You will have to create your own linkage.
Guzzi uses 7mm threads on it's linkage whereas the Heim joints I got
from McMaster use the more common 6mm thread. A length of stainless
allthread from McMaster is an inexpensive way to go.

Clevis pins were what should have been used and the use of bolts instead
probably tore up holes in the linkage pretty fast.

I chose the heim joint method because (a) I wanted a more permanent
solution - clevis pins will wear again and (b) I didn't want to fiddle
with getting the holes for the clevis pins precisely sized. I think my
method is easier because it bolts right on and only requires one cut on
the allthread and perhaps a bend depending on your setup. No, it's not
original and no, it costs more than a couple of clevis pins. I know
lot's of guys use larger clevis pins or install bushings or live with a
sloppy shift lever.

Greg Bender, I saw your site and you say you chose the option to
"Replace the entire setup with Heim joints (also known as ball end
joints). I chose this approach because it required the least amount of
work and promised the tightest joints over the long-haul." How do these

get installed? Do you need to drill out the holes? How is it easier
than drilling out the holes for larger clevis pins?
