Hi Ray,
It's possible that the old case is cracked - my spare Eldo-style case
was. Good thing I had a spare for my spare! Cheers,

My main concern was that the roller bearing race spun freely in the old
case. The only thing holding it in was the screwed down plate that is
there for just this reason, making me think maybe this is somewhat
common. But, I've never heard of a bearing and race spinning together.

Ray:
I dont' know if it's suppposed to be there, but I'd use some loctite
bearing mount 641. I was also under the impression that the outside of a

bearing shouldn't spin, that's what the bearing's for. Usually it's an
interference fit (.0015") where you have to drive it in carefully or
freeze the bearing and warm the housing.
But that's just general info, can't say if it's right for an Eldo
rear end.
you can see it here:

The rear wheel bearings on my Laverda were the same way, they just
dropped in. I used this stuff and no problems.

The sharing of what we know just goes
round and round. Feels good.
It makes me all tingly, too.
