Decided yesterday to test fit the Euro 850GT windshield I bought from MG
Cycle to my homemade s.s. brackets. Not even close! My brackets are a
good inch wider than the upper mounts on the windshield. Luckily, I had
a pair of the chrome clamp-on type brackets laying around. After an hour
of cleaning and shrink tubing the clamp area (to keep from scuffing my
purty red powder) they were on and the windshield was in place. Glad I
went with this 'shield instead of a National Cycle one, doesn't look
another Harley wannabe and won't hide the beefy good looks of my Loop.
Measuring the old NC shield I got from Dave O. the homemade brackets
will work with it, so I guess all the time spent making them isn't
wasted. I'll just use them on another project. If anyone would like to
see the windshield and brackets in place (along with the just installed
bar-end signals), I'll post some pics later today.
Then there's the brake cable problem. Put it on and even with maximum
slack adjusted in, the brakes drag. Cable was fully seated in both
adjusters and switch, the levers (on the backing plate) are in the same
position they came off (the same as my '69's). Seems like the inner
cable is too short or outer is too long. Any ideas?
Still waiting for the heads to come back from the machine shop.
Discovered three weeks ago I had a burnt valve on the right cylinder, so
both heads came off and are getting all new valves, seats cut, etc.
The EPCO Stainless exhaust didn't fit, so it went back to Ohio for
alterations. The headpipes didn't fit the inlets of the mufflers, the
crossover pipe didn't fit the mufflers and the flange of the headpipes
didn't fit into the heads correctly (with everything in place where it
belonged, the flange sat at an angle).
I shall overcome these problems though. The end reward will be too great
to let minor setbacks like these derail the project. Just kinda' bummed.
