Subject: GENERAL U-JOINT QUESTIONS

Has anyone ever taken a drive shaft/w joint to a shop that specializes
in drive shafts to see if they can come up with an economical solution?
There is a shop here in Winston-Salem, NC that does nothing but drive
shafts and they are masters at their craft. I had a drive shaft off a
'91 Nissan truck(115k miles) and it was vibrating terribly, removed
shaft and joints were almost stuck. The mechanic(and repair manual) told
me they were the type that can't be replaced, but he could make up
something for me, but first he took the old shaft and with a big ole
hammer he whacked each side of the joints on a vice, wiggled the joints,
which were now loose and acted like new. He said come back and see me in
a few years. Said he always whacked the joints good on new installs to
make sure the joints/bearings were set/aligned right. Anyway, just
wondering.
