You don't have Greg Field's "Moto Guzzi Big Twins"? Shame, shame! :-)
Seriously, it should be in every Guzzi nuts book collection. Lots of
great Loop history including information about this subject. Cheers,

Yes, factory used what ever motor they had handy at the time. Only later
did
they start putting in matched numbers.

Paul, yes sir you are right, my mistake it is a V700 not Ambo but what
do
you think about the different numbers, did the factory ever do that?

From: Custom Guzzi [mailto:paul-@comcast.net]

67-68 is correct. Should actually be a V700 as the Ambo didn't come out
till
late 68 early 69 and had a 5 digit VIN.

My friend Scott just bought an Ambassador that is registered as a 1968.
The
frame number reads 1787 and the engine number reads 1901. This
obviously
could be a swapped out engine but could it also be that it came from the
factory this way? Also, could this really be a 1967?? Is Ian Adkins
around, he may know something about this?? Thanks, Bob Hawkes
