Ask more questions about this "previously rebuilt". Was the clutch
worked on? What was replaced? The Guzzi clutch is a bit more complex
than standard. They have a nasty habbit of getting notched in the
flywheel and the transmission spline. When this happens, they get
nearly "electric" or on/off in their reaction. Very difficult to
"feather" the clutch under these conditions.

If this is because you are a novice rider, it will get better. However,
if it is because you have a worn clutch, it will only get worse. I'd
ask a lot more about the clutch history before blaming my riding technique.
