Hi there,

After a frame up rebuild on my 74 Eldo LAPD last year, I managed to
take a 1K mile trip before the rear crank seal began leaking... again.

The Eldo leaked from the rear before the rebuild. During the assembly of
the engine during the frame up, I noticed a small worn area on the rear
of the crank where the rear seal rides. In an attempt to avoid this spot
I installed the new seal a bit forward. Not enough to block the channel
in the rear bearing assembly but maybe enough to get the seal to ride on
a new spot.

During the afore mentioned trip, just 5 miles before making it back to
home, I noticed a significant oil ameoba (12"?) while refueling.

Now I have the engine out (again). The seal has moved forward and rubbed
(slightly) on the rotating flywheel assembly.

I am now trying to find the "final solution." Here are some ideas I've
considered and would appreciate with wisdom of this group...

Double lip seal?
Center punch the seal landing to allow better purchase of the seal
Locktite the seal in place
Is there a plastic sleeve available to help bring up the surface of the
crank?

I sure would like to avoid buying a new crank and rear bearing.

Thanks for your ideas,

HDot
