Hi Keith:

I went to a local luggage, hand bag type place and asked about keys for my
Wixoms. The guy dumped a box of used keys on the table and told me to start
digging. I found two that fit!! If Moe doesn't come through let me know.

Does anyone know if all of the Wixom keys the same?

John

I soaked the lock with WD-40 tonight and played with the key a bit and
voila! Latch locked. Then, uh oh, it won't unlock! Played with it
some more and got it unlocked, but then noticed the tip of the key was
breaking off (the raised portion that was turning the lock). Now I'm
thinking the key was not cut right and perhaps that is why it was hard
to lock and unlock, but at least now I know the latch does lock. Also
found out that Moe at Cycle Garden has an original Wixom key that he
won't part with but I asked him to make me 2 copies - will see if he can
help. Would like to keep the original latches if at all possible to
prevent the hassle of drilling out the original riveted latches and
re-drilling and fitting the new ones.

Keith, my two cents, just go with the new latches, make those bags work

Found a locksmith near work who knew his "stuff", got a key, ground it
down a bit, got it to fit, but the bag would not lock. I left it with
him to take a closer look at the internals of the lock itself. Called
him a few minutes ago and he said the lock is rusted and corroded, not
looking good. So, I can either leave the original latches as is with no

lockability, or install the new latches from McMaster which will require

drilling out the old riveted latches and drilling new holes for the
replacement latches. Hmmmm, not sure which way to go.....
