Tom:

I've shipped a replacement alternator. I'll bet that
fixes it.

1 of 2 solved.

The neutral switch had turned sligtly, no big deal.

On the alternator, I'm not getting ground from the
alternator spade
connector - "the upright" one. If I ground the
alternator light wire
to the alternator body - bingo - light.

With the bike running, the battery does show charging
(14v).

Could this just be a bad alternator - or am I reading it
wrong?

Thanks, -tom

Tom,
Have you been inside the tranny lately? The neutral
switch is nothing
more than a metal tab with a bend on the tip that comes
in contact
with a nub on the shift drum when neutral is selected.
Could be this
tab is bent way to far. Pull the switch out and check
the tab. As for
the gen light, I would look at the wiring from the new
alternator
focusing on the light section and checking connectors
and continuity.

Guys - looking for inspiration (ideas) - hopefully this
will be
obvious to someone. Symptoms:

1974 Eldo Police (disk)

1. Neutral light stays on at all times switch is on -
regardless of
gear (even neutral). 2 wires on the switch. Ground
fault?
2. Generator light. Put on the Nolan/Field alternator -
triple
checked wiring. Battery is charging, bike runs great, no
generator
light, ever. I pulled light from under dash and checked
- yep - 12v
on the red wire with switch on. However - if I ground
the light
socket at the red wire connector with switch on - magic,
it lights.
Ground fault?

All other dash lights, handlebar controls, signals,
brake lights,
work as normal.

Something common here? I can't see anything obvious,
bike runs fine,
no spitzen & sparken.

Thanks -tom
