Hey, speaking of starter engagement, MY teeth aren't worn BUT the
starter only engages about 30% of the time; in other words, on the
average I have to hit the starter button three times to get it to hook
up and turn the engine. Sometimes it does it on the first try, more
often not. First try gives just the non-engaged grinding Jason
mentions.

Once engaged, it does fine. The starter's just been rebuilt, the
solenoid contacts are clean.....

Is there some sort of shimming or adjusting that I should do to make
engagement more certain? Would I shim a "tilt" into the Bosch starter
or would I move it toward the front of the bike (axially with the
starter motor) or would I shift it toward the off-side of the bike?

Anybody had this issue before and fixed it? '75 Eldo.
