One of my project bikes is called the U1KG(Under $1000 Guzzi), the whole
point to this project to build a running loop for under $1000. After
getting lucky and finding a rear main bearing (with crank & front) on
ebay for $5.
I started reassembly.
The rings over time(sat for about a year)seized into the ringland. I
have no idea how this happened, my memory tells me that the rings were
fine upon disassembly.

Anyways, I let them soak in motor oil for about a month, no effect on
loosening the rings. From there I moved onto soaking them in PB Blast
for a couple days, this worked enough to carefully pry the rings out
from the grooves. It sounds as though mine were way worse off than
yours. Mine were
seized all the way around. It sounds as though you only have one
[portion of the ring to deal with. Try soaking the piston in PB Blast as
I did or some other alien technology before trying to remove. You want
to avoid marring any portion of the ringland.

Thanks Kevin. The cylinders look good to me. Just that one piston top
ring concerns me a bit but maybe i can pry out the remaining ring and
file the groove a bit. The heads and top of the pistons have a lot of
carbon on them but i think after cleaning up the heads they will be
fine. New rings will probably be the ticket for now. Maybe i will get
some pics up for you guys to have a look.

Hey,

This may not be the best advice....:-) but ya know...Look at the
cylinders closely if the is no peeling, score marks, ect., look at the
pistons next. Good shape? If so, I would just re-ring the pistons.
What's the ring end gap like? Guzzi's are pretty tolerant, forgiving
is
maybe the word. I know of a Guzzi running with a huge score down the
right barrel, runs great, wouldn't even know. Your call really, I
don't
have the cylinders to look at and photos won't do it justice if things
are on the fence. I know everyone wants to give you "the best" advice
with hearts in the right places but it's not always the best on the
wallet. I know how tight money can be. What's the worst that can
happen?

Do I remember right that a light hone can be put on the barrels? Might
want to look into that.

Maybe try to justify it in a way of maybe the money could be spent
elsewhere, to make sure the bike safe, tires? ect.

There I said it, I'm NOT ASHAME

The top ring on one of my pistons is half fused into the piston. I
can

pry it out but does this mean that piston has to be replaced or
can
 i

just get new rings. From what i read on other posts it sounds like
the

best way to go is to get all new cylinders and pistons as
replacing
 the

pistons is almost the same price. Does this sould right?
