Got in under the wire did ya. I know a few years ago it was defiantly
beneficial to order directly from Gil******(brain fart), you know who..
But now, yea, not much differance, might as well help out the local
folk.
I would love to see a new top end on that motorcycle, as Sam said, years
& years of trouble free, but he will also probably be able to get allot
of miles before having to replace. I think the amount of power lost
could not rationalize the $600. It's not like it's gonna go up against
Ken's racer. Well, never say never right? If he does, he'll lose, but
have a couple extra bucks in his pocket to cover the beer.:-)
Just keep a good eye on the oil, first sign of any glint of metal
flakes. Stop & tear down.

Roger and Kevin, I agree to an extent, money can be important in
enjoying a
bike, sometimes spending too much can take the joy out of riding. I
sprung
for the Nikasil kit directly from Italy several years ago when the
dollar
was strong in Italy. Now I have a bullet proof top end. But maybe I
could
have honed the cylinders, in my case the chrome was peeling off the tops
of
the cylinders and the characteristic "indentation" at the top of the
cylinders was present, this indentation reduces compression and thus
power.
Honing took most of it out but not all of it. Bob HAwkes

Hey,
This may not be the best advice....:-) but ya know...Look at the
cylinders closely if the is no peeling, score marks, ect., look at the
pistons next. Good shape? If so, I would just re-ring the pistons.
What's the ring end gap like? Guzzi's are pretty tolerant, forgiving is
maybe the word. I know of a Guzzi running with a huge score down the
right barrel, runs great, wouldn't even know. Your call really, I don't
have the cylinders to look at and photos won't do it justice if things
are on the fence. I know everyone wants to give you "the best" advice
with hearts in the right places but it's not always the best on the
wallet. I know how tight money can be. What's the worst that can happen?
Do I remember right that a light hone can be put on the barrels? Might
want to look into that.
Maybe try to justify it in a way of maybe the money could be spent
elsewhere, to make sure the bike safe, tires? ect.
