Hi Ron and Greg,

McMaster-Carr doesn't carry a 22x1.25, that's a bad sign. The crank or
plug are usually peened to keep the plug in place. I've had to do what
Guzziology suggests - use another smaller tap with the correct pitch
(such as 8x1.25) as a scraper to clean the threads. Slow tedious work to
be sure and hard on the fingers without some sort of handle to hold the
tap. Found a little wooden handle in all of my fathers old tools that
clamped to it securely and had at it. Cheers,

that's a tough tap to find. 22x1.5 or 22 x 2.5 are readily available. i
never checked, but is it indeed 1.25 not 1.5?

 Guzziesti,
I have to beg, borrow, or buy a 22X1.25mm tap. It is needed to chase the
threads in the crank pin plug hole on a '67 V700. The factory plug was
seized (after 38 years-not surprising), I had to drill it out. I started
turning in the new plug, it got about 1/2 way, started to stiffen up, I
gave
it a little more torque, and...well you know the rest of the sad story.
I
now have aluminum galled up in the steel threads. Bummer. So anyone know
where I can lay hands on this metric beast?
