Decided instead of riding today that I'd work on the '72 Ambo project
with the goal being to have it running and tuned by the end of the day.
Even with late start this morning it didn't take long to prepare for the
first try. Hooked up the toner bottle (from a Seimens/Nixdorf 2140
printer) that I converted into a remote fuel tank, turned on the valve,
turned on the key, gave it two twists of the throttle, held my breath
and hit the starter button. It started so quickly I was startled and
reacted by turning off the key. Once I realized it was supposed to do
that, I fired it up again and revved it up a bit. Sounded good except a
bit of extra valve rattle of the right side that I need to check on.
Checked the charging system (ok), timing (off just a few degrees),
adjusted the idle mixture then sychronized the carbs. To say I'm very
pleased (and more than a little relieved) would be an understatement.
Now if I just had my bodywork back from the painter...
