Tim, Say more about that radio tune up, I like the sounds of it. BOb

If I had the time I could probably go through my boxes and boxes of
motorcycle magazines and find an illustrated article. They used to
recommend using the typical little pocket radio popular when transistors
took over. You just turned it on, dialed it between stations, on static,
set it on the motor, and used the static timing mark. When the points
would open, the little spark at the points would make a "click" or
popping noise on the radio. That way you could get your distributor set
correctly to start with.

We also carried a matchbook, as Pat Hayes said, using the striking
surface to file the points, and the cover to gap the points, the
cardboard being roughly the proper thickness. A white business card in
your tool kit was just the thing, after setting the points, to drag
through them while they were closed, thus cleaning any oil off of them.
