I recently had a headscratcher with similar symptoms. It would seem to warm
up fairly quickly after a bit of coughing and sputtering. as soon as I asked
something of the engine, it would bogdown. when it was really warmed up,it
was fine. Then one morning, while it was coughing and sputtering, I spotted
a small spit bubble escape from the gaskets (2) between the intake runner
and the head.
Replaced those gaskets and everything is great once again.
