When I bought my 72 Ambo in 1985 the exhaust nut threads in the heads were
pretty much stripped. After replacing the heads I made myself an exhaust nut
wrench that was about 18 inches long. They NEVER loosened up after that.

With that said I've got more special loop wrenches availible and added one
to the arsinal.

The Super Spanner is an exhaust nut spanner that's over 18 inches long. It
has 3 engagement dogs to ensure that the exhaust nut isn't damaged when
torqued. The other end is designed to bolt to the front crank pulley on the
engine for crank nut removal. Last, the drive shaft spline is laser cut
into the handle so it fits the trany output shaft or rear drive input shaft
for work on these.

The other 2 wrench set is for swing arm and front end adjustment, removal or
installation.

The wrenches are laser cut from 3/16 stainless steel and are of very good
quality. Pictures and a written explanation are availible.

The Super Spanner is $45.
The 2 wrench set is $60
All three are $90

For those of you who bought the 2 wrench set from me I'll adjust the Super
Spanner price so you don't pay more than the $90. Prices include shipping
and handling.

So what is the best way to size them? I just put new pipes and mufflers on
my 68 and I need to replace all the nuts...

Hi Ross,

I think the diameter is a definite contributing factor. A reader
mentioned that in the TIPS II book I was reading last evening as the
wife watched the last episode of "The Apprentice" (don't even get me
started on 'reality' shows).

An e-mail posted to the Norton list regarding loosening exhaust nuts
raised an interesting question.
One lister started measuring exhaust nuts front different sources and
found the diameters all over the board. He measured a difference of
almost 0.02 in diameter. Besides the steel v. bronze issue, could this
be part of the problem with loosing exhaust nuts on Guzzis?
