Keith:

Perhaps the type of gear lube you're using has something to do with it. If
it's really frothing up it may be causing a pressure build up - thus the
migration.

I've been using Amsol synthetic gear lube and it work fine.

Got the rear drive off, there are no notches or flat spots anywhere on
the pinion or the swingarm. Pinion is perfectly round (the part that
fits into the rear drive, and the swingarm is round also, no 1/2 moon
looking notches. I did notice that the PO did not install a paper
gasket between the swingarm and pinion, which is probably the reason it
was weeping a little bit at that spot.

I checked the trans fluid level and it was perfect, rear drive fluid
level was low again (I topped it off during the ride to the National as
it was low when I found the driveshaft boot leaking, and it was low
again today after the 400 mile ride home this weekend). Can't figure
out why the oil is migrating so much, but as long as the new boot keeps
the fluid from leaking out all over my rear tire, I will be happy.

Next up, remove the swingarm and install the new boot (when the parts
arrive).

It should have the little cutouts in the pinion carrier for venting and
oil return. The swingarm boss has them, too. Match the cutouts on the
carrier with the cutouts on the swingarm.

Have you considered that the output-shaft seal on the tranny is
leaking? If not, consider it. Check fluid level in the tranny.
