That was Ken. A very good guy, living the dream on a 2+ year motorcycle journey.

Disconnect the wire from the coil to the alt. and then just work on getting it running right. That may cure the alt. problem

If it's both cylinders, it's almost certainly ignition, and will be one of the components both sides share. Sounds as if it may be a coil issue. Check for full voltage at the coil. You may have a lousy connection there or through the key switch that nets you low or dirty voltage to the coil. Check this first. You should have within a tenth volt of battery voltage. If not, clean connections. If that doen't work, clean the goo outta the ignition switch, lube, and assemble. If that gets full voltage but the bike still doesn't run proceed as below. If that stil doesn't get full voltage, jumper freom the battery as a test.

Pull out and re-seat all the spark cables, especially both ends of the one to the coil. Do they look burned or carboned up? Look at the contacts inside the cap and coil. Clean them out.

File, clean, and set the points, and make sure the condenser has a good ground and clean connection to the points.

If all this doesn't work, suspect the condenser and/or coil.

Hi Greg

I met a few people from your neck of the woods at the National. Off the top of my head I can't remember his name but he was traveling all over Europe and had just gotten back. He was ridding up from Florida on his eventual finish in Seattle. Nice guy. He mentioned you just missed coming to the rally. There were a few bikes with your kit. Some great looking loops.

Anyway

I am having a heck of a time getting me Eldo to run right. Black smoke fouled plugs. I just put new atomizers, needles, float vale shutoff and enricher (choke) plungers in the carbs. I hope that works. When I got the engine to rev up to about 2-3K RPm the gen light started to glow dully. That make sense to you? I checked the wiring. It looks correct. I will check again. It is really simple. Nothing is happening with that until I get the bike to idle and accelerate properly. If you have any thought on this let me know

Tom
