Mark recommended 2 small springs for a "smoother transition" I thought,
Mark E will have to chime in on this. I bought 1 new set of springs
from MG, took off the big looped one and replaced it with the small one
from the new set, so I now have 2 small springs on there now. Seemed to
run great, will have to find some long uphill runs to see if the pinging
has gone away when the engine is under load.

I read Keith's message that he had worked on his distributor springs
recently. He mentioned... "installed the new distributor spring (used 2
small ones)". Was that 2 of the small standard springs? Did you put in 2

new small ones or just replace the loop ended spring with a second small

one? The reason I ask is I'm experiencing some pinging right as the tach

swings past 3200 rpm. I have another set of new OEM springs (one small,
one loop-ended) that I haven't gotten around to yet. Anyone who was
present at the imprompto Tech Session at the National held by Mark,
please feel free to pipe up.

Another question to the Knowledge Base: I converted my 850T engine back
to the single point dist when I installed it into my Ambo (I didn't feel

like mounting a second coil, doing a bunch of grinding to the dist/gen
for clearance, and wanted to retain the tach). I took the dist drive
gear off the dual point dist & installed it on an Ambo dist, then
plugged it into the hole. I noticed at that time that there was more
backlash between the the dist gear & camshaft gear than I liked, but was

in a hurry & ignored it - work good, last a long time. I'd like to
tighten this up some and was wondering if it is possible to do by
getting the drive gear deeper into the crankcase via thinner gaskets,
moving shimms around in the dist, or by removing some material from the
face of the dist mounting flange(s)? Anybody got some experience here?
