Grattan next weekend?Mid-Ohio? So for those that don't know Gilmore Car Museum sits between Kalamazoo & Battle Creek, MI. The museum is on a huge plot o'land in the middle of some farm counry. I think Gilmore bought up some old barns, HUGE barns. 2 levels, ect. He had these things moved to the site, restored, and put a bunch of old cars in 'em. Both levels. Now I don't know much about cars, except that they have 4 wheels and are generally a PIMA, but these were gorgous, these things could of literally been right off the line. Cars from the 20's - up.These things are huge autos, V-12's, V-16's, rumble seats and gigantic hood ordiments. So yeah, every year they have a vintage motorcycle show. Small show but good. Like AJ said, 1 Loop (71 Ambo w/single dash). Excellent shape. I didn't see the owner anywhere. Got pulled away from the buy a pair of 750 Ducati's. There were allot of cool Cushmans, 1 Cushman Roadking(very cool). A bunch of japanese, including 2 Water Buffalos. But 1 that caught my eye was a 194? BMW military sidecar rig. The owner said that it was found abandoned in Czechoslovakia. He said that it was on the Russian front. Once found, it made it's way to Canada. Where it found it's present owner. He also told me the when the tank was restored, 7 bullet holes had to be patched. Lots of gagets, levers, and things to play with. Very cool. Around 3:00, some of our crew started getting a bit grouchy. No beer tent. So I run off to fix the bike. Yup, the bike crapped out right after paying the admission. As I'm kicking the thing over, a pal rides buy and yells "Well, you finaly made here, no one said anything about getting home!", Might be repeating myself, but for the past 4-5 years I have tried to make it out to this thing. Everytime I get waylaid. Soo, after rebuilding the Shovel, there was a bunch of rib poking about my goal of actually making it out there.... never considered getting home:-) Turned out just to be a shorted wire that was easily found & taped. Once back into Detroit, I was able to catch the last of John Lee Hooker Jr.'s set, then off to some more pals for BBQ & beer. All in all, great day. Kev |
